The boys all joined our local swim team this past August and have had several swim meets since then. They swim at the Bennett Rec Center, which has four lanes, and is quite warm for the water aerobics ladies. Their latest swim meet was at an amazing aquatics facility with starting blocks, 10 lanes in the middle, another eight on one end and a deep, diving area on the other. It was quite an experience. Unfortunately, many of their team mates couldn't make it to this meet, so the relay teams weren't the best, but they were good sports. Tegan and Riley teamed up with a young girl on the team for both the medley relay and the freestyle. Since there were only three of them Riley swam twice in both relays. When he completed the first leg of the freestyle relay, his teammate, the little girl, was at the other end cheering him on, and just kept clapping for him as he got out of the water. He finally convinced her she was supposed to swim her leg, so she put her goggles on and happily hopped in. When the medley relay came around she was ready to go when Riley reached her.
Riley's races were always exciting. He is amazingly fast in the freestyle and he looks like he's gliding on top of the water. The amount of energy he could kick in during the last half lap of a race was incredible. He won a couple races coming from behind like that. His last event was the individual medley and we didn't really feel like doing it. Typically, the swimmers race five or less events, but since he had swam two legs in each relay this felt like his seventh event and he was quite tired. Andy convinced him to race and he ended up getting second.
Conner wasn't too sure about those starting blocks, so he chose to do all his starts off the side of the pool and had some great finishes.
Tegan officially moved up in age groups, so he had some tough competition, against swimmers a full foot taller than him (we know he'll grow at some point, but right now he's the shortest among all his friends). He did a great job, swam hard, and came away with some ribbons as well.
They are all having a great time with the swim team and love the meets.
