Spelling Bee

Last Saturday Tegan participated in a home school spelling bee. It was for students in 4th through 8th grade so he was right in the middle of the group. They had to take a 50 word written test first and then the top 25 did the oral test on stage. He got 29 right on the written test, which turned out to be a fairly good result. No one got 100%. The person who did the best was an 8th grader who went to the state bee last year and she got 48 right. When the oral bee started Tegan seemed to get the hardest word of each round and we're not saying this because we're biased. He got out on the 5th round. The participant before him spelled "polka" and then he had to spell "wiseacre" - what kind of word is that???? Regardless, it was a great experience and he enjoyed being on stage saying the words.

Tegan is sitting in the back under the "E".

After the spelling bee we went to look at some houses, but nothing we really ended up liking. Then, at 2pm, we finally went to have lunch - boys were starving! After that we only had an hour and a half until the service started at the church we were visiting. Since we were near the church and 30 minutes from home it didn't make sense to go home, so we hung out in Barnes and Noble for a bit.

We visited a HUGE church (and really like the Saturday night service)! When walking in we had to walk from the parking lot across a skywalk to get to the worship center. Walking through the church felt like going through a convention center. We had never been in one so big. At one point, about 30 minutes into the service Conner leaned over to me and whispered, "This doesn't seem like it has anything to do with God. Do they even have a pastor?" He didn't realize we had finished singing and were now watching the high tech video announcements. It was like a movie to him. The actual message part of the service had not begun yet. Yes, they did have a pastor :).
